The second LARES 2 and fifth LARES International Science Workshop

The Second LARES 2 and Fifth International LARES Science Workshop will be held in Rome, Italy, from May 30th to June 3rd, 2022.

This year we have, among the invited speakers, two Nobel laureates in physics: Roger Penrose (2020 Nobel Prize in Physics on black hole formation) and Kip Thorne (2017 Nobel Prize in Physics for the observation of gravitational waves). In conjunction with the workshop there will be the first John Archibald Wheeler Prize. This year the prize is on gravitational physics.

Some of the topics that will be discussed during the workshop will be:

• General Relativity, Gravitomagnetism and Frame-Dragging;
• Tests of General Relativity and cosmology;
• Space geodesy and Earth’s gravity field; 
• Tests of frame-dragging in the Solar System and with ground-based experiments;
• Status and scientific results of the LARES mission;
• The LARES 2 mission;
• GRACE and GRACE Follow-On missions;
• Engineering contribution for physics in space.

John Archibald Wheeler Prize 2020 Ceremony in Rome

The first John Archibald Wheeler Prize have been awarded in 2020: however the ceremony was cancelled because of COVID-19 pandemic. Now the prize ceremony will be held in Rome during the Workshop. The recipients of the 2020 prize, in alphabetical order: Igor Novikov (one of the world most prominent experts in relativistic astrophysics), Roger Penrose (2020 Nobel Prize in Physics on black hole formation) and Kip Thorne (2017 Nobel Prize in Physics for the observation of gravitational waves). All registered individuals to the workshop can attend the ceremony and the presentations of the three scientists.

Registration

We kindly ask every participant to register, whether or not it is required the registration fee. The registration does not imply the payment of any fee if the registrant will not attend the workshop.

Conference Fee

If not weaved by the conference organizing committee (such as the invited speakers), registrants should pay the registration fee by choosing one of the following options:

1. Full conference fee: includes lunches, coffee breaks for the 4 days, social dinner and conference tours: 400 €
2. One day conference fee: includes lunch and coffee breaks for 1 day: 150 €
3. Two days conference fee: includes lunch and coffee breaks for 2 days: 300 €
4. PhD students conference fee: includes lunches and coffee breaks for the 4 days: 300 €

(For currencies different from Euro the official change rate will be applied plus bank commissions).

On-site registration it will be possible but the conference fee can be paid only with cash and there will be extra charge of 50 € to be paid for each of the above options.

Sponsorship packages

There are three options for sponsors willing to participate to the conference

1. Platinum sponsorship package: conference fee 5000 €. This fee includes the sponsor logo on all event publicity materials, on the poster and website of the conference, a stand in the conference area and three complimentary registrations.
2. Gold sponsorship package: conference fee 2500 €. This fee includes the sponsor logo on all event publicity materials, on the poster and website of the conference, a poster of the company/organization in the conference area and three complimentary registrations.
3. Silver sponsorship package: conference fee 1200 €. This fee includes the sponsor logo on all event publicity materials, on the poster and website of the conference, and three complimentary registrations.

Participants attending with Complimentary Registrations must notify the Local Organizing Committee of their accreditation in order to be added to the participants list. The Complimentary Registration covers conference entrance, coffee breaks and lunches, social dinner, conference tours.
